Students in beginning drama learn the fundamentals and basics of theater with a focus on acting. They will learn many skills including: theater vocabulary, how to speak in front of others, how to become another person on stage, how to work in a group, how to memorize, and how to audition. This is a class for students interested in acting as well as those looking to improve their self confidence through activities and fun! Participation is the most important part of a student's grade in beginning drama.
Assignments and updates are found on Schoology and grades are found on PowerSchool.
All drama students will be required to perform in front of classmates, but being in an after school production is voluntary. While all Benton students are aloud to audition for after school productions, everyone is encouraged to take drama.
All students in grades 6-8 can take beginning drama and the class is repeatable.
Advanced Drama
Advanced Drama is an audition based class for students in grades 7 & 8 who have completed at least one year of theatrical training. Students in advanced drama will continue to grow their knowledge and understanding of acting and being on stage. Students will perform monologues, act in duet scenes and group scenes, analyze characters, and create their own pieces. This is a class for students who enjoy themselves on stage and want to continue their training in acting. Students will be held to higher standards in their memorization, movement, and acting abilities.
